I want to tell Shaw's supermarket that I like Tropicana orange juice and a list of products that I know I'll buy and want to learn more information about. I want more mobile options, but also more choice in what information I'm receiving. I don't want some blanket mass SMS blast--I want to personalize my mobile experience with the brands, products and companies I trust and frequent as a consumer.

I will agree with you on most things here, but I'm still not entirely sure that I'd love to get hundreds of ads into my phone each day. As long as I'd be able to opt-back-out of the service without jumping through burning hoops in a 5-ring circus, then yes.. it could be great.

I have the same relationship with my phone. In fact, whenever I find a networking application or website, one of the first things I check is its mobile offerings. At a minimum in this day and age, some sort of SMS and/or mobile setup should be available. eBay, Amazon, Flickr and Photobucket have done good work on scaling down their services.
