Is It Necessary For A-listers To Get First Dibs?

When it comes to promoting a service or site, the "smartest" startups will contact the big names to get their start. This leaves a very wide gap open for the taking for smaller blogs. However, for all it’s worth, is it really necessary for A-listers to get first dibs?

  • Great points. Its a bit of a double edged swort - a lot of big blogs will only give you coverage if they are the first with the story. Unfortunately, the coverage on some of the big blogs isn't as thoughtful or insightful as the detailed analysis on some of the smaller ones. So there is a tradeoff.

    We got a ton of traffic from TechCrunch and it helped put us on the map - but what we are really looking forward to is coverage from the so-called 'non-A list' that we think will actually have an influence on real users rather than 'drive-by users.' At the end of the day, I think your target audience should probably dictate the approach?
